The Lenovo ThinkBook 15 G2 tries to provide everything one expects from a device that targets this budget. Bringing the learnings from its sibling series like IdeaPad or Thinkpad, really shows that a lot of effort has been put in.

Design

One of the main attractions of this laptop is its design approach which is two appearances that easily attract a lot of sights when placed in a crowded environment, this design is also complemented by the anodized aluminum chassis.

11th Generation Tiger Lake Processor

Intelligently processing for all of the CPU-intensive operations is the Intel Core i5 1135G7 11th Generation Tiger Lake Series Processor, which targets itself as a mediocre unit. It is optimized to handle a lot of modern-day tasks with its incredible abilities. Under the hood, it packs 4 cores, 8 threads, and an Intel Smart Cache of 8 MB, the setup provides a noble multi-core and multi-threaded performance.

The CPU is initially clocked at a base frequency of 2.4 GHz, and in maximum utilization can be overclocked to the max clock of 4.2 using Turbo Boost. In parallel, the power drawn from the CPU can be showcased with a TDP-down of 12 watts and a TDP-up of 28 watts. The CPU is capable of handling DDR4 memory maxing out a speed of 3200 MHz.

For graphical support, in the absence of a discrete GPU the integrated Intel’s Iris Xe Graphics function UHD graphics, which allow the device to flawlessly process operations like gaming, editing, or even rendering. It is optimized with a graphical render frequency of 1.30 GHz.

Memory and Storage

The multitasking aspect of the Laptop is supported by the DDR4 onboard memory setup packing a capacity of 8 GB, which enables a lot of possibilities for the product. Lenovo also enables the aspect of upgradability for its users by providing an extra DDR4 slot which can have a capacity of 32 GB, allowing the user to fully utilize the potential of the CPU.

All of the storage is stored on top of the 2.5-inch 5400 rpm 1TB Hard drive, alongside the HDD it is also provided with 2 PCIe Gen 4.0×4 NVMe M.2 2280 and 2242 Solid State Drive Slots, which can be housed in the future, enabling the user to take advantage of the fast data transfer speeds of the M.2 Platform.

Display

The processed pixels are displayed by the massive 15.6-inch screen which displays at a surprising resolution of Full HD at 1920 x 1080, over its TN panel. The display is also capable of reaching a maximum brightness of 220 nits, so it can be easily used in extreme light conditions. The Anti-glare surfacing enhances the privacy of the content displayed by trimming down the viewing angles, it also trims the reflection produced by diffusing light rays it faces. The color gamut is explained by the 45% coverage over the NTSC space, which eliminates its use for color-accurate applications.

Battery

Under the bonnet, it locates a 45 Wh, battery which allows the device to provide a video streaming time of around 6 hours, and after it is drained the laptop can be recharged using the 65-watt USB Type-C AC Adapter.

Keyboard & Trackpad

The full-size, LED Backlit English Keyboard, is borrowed or inspired from the ThinkPad series of laptops which means, that it possesses tactile feedback. Below that is the fully clickable, and multi-gesture supported trackpad.

Where the external connectivity is supported by the 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Always On), 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 which also supports data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort™ 1.4, 1x Thunderbolt™ 4 / USB4 at a signaling rate of 40 Gbps support data transfer, DisplayPort™ 1.4, 1x HDMI® 1.4b display out, 1x SD Card reader, 1x Ethernet (RJ-45), and 1x Headphone/microphone combo jack (3.5mm).

The Windows logins are made secure with the help of the Touch Style, Integrated into the Power Button fingerprint reader. The audio setup is kept up by the Realtek® ALC3287 codec chip and is produced by the dual front-firing, stereo speakers, which also come with Dolby Audio.
